Introduction:

Oyster stuffing is a classic and decadent dish often served during holiday dinners. Combining fresh oysters with traditional bread stuffing ingredients, this recipe creates a rich, savory side dish that pairs perfectly with turkey, ham, or any other roast. In this article, we will share with you the best oyster stuffing recipe to help you impress your guests at your next festive gathering.

Ingredients:

– 8 cups cubed bread (preferably French or sourdough)

– 1 pint fresh shucked oysters, drained and chopped (reserve liquor)

– 1 cup unsalted butter

– 1 large onion, finely chopped

– 4 celery stalks, finely chopped

– 1/4 cup finely chopped fresh parsley

– 2 teaspoons dried thyme

– 1 teaspoon dried sage

– 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

– 1/2 teaspoon salt

– 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

– 1 cup chicken broth

Instructions:

1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a large baking dish and set it aside.

2. Spread the cubed bread out on a baking sheet and bake for about 10 minutes in the preheated oven, or until evenly toasted. Keep an eye on the bread to make sure it doesn’t get too dark. Once toasted, transfer the bread cubes to a large mixing bowl.

3. In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the onions and celery, cooking until they are soft and translucent. This should take about 5 to 7 minutes.

4. Stir in the parsley, thyme, sage, black pepper, salt, and nutmeg. Cook for an additional minute to allow the flavors to meld together.

5. Pour the onion and celery mixture over the toasted bread cubes in the large mixing bowl. Mix until well combined.

6. Carefully fold in the chopped oysters, ensuring they are distributed evenly throughout the mixture.

7. Gradually pour the reserved oyster liquor and chicken broth over the bread cube mixture, stirring to combine. The stuffing should be moist but not soggy. Adjust the amount of liquid depending on your desired consistency.

8. Transfer the stuffing to the greased baking dish, pressing it down slightly to create an even layer.

9. Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes in the preheated oven. Then, remove the foil and continue baking for an additional 10 to 15 minutes, or until golden brown on top.

10. Remove from the oven and let it rest for a few minutes before serving hot alongside your main course.

Conclusion:

This best oyster stuffing recipe is a fantastic addition to any holiday meal, giving your table a touch of sophistication and indulgence. Enjoy this delicious side dish as a treat for special occasions, and watch your guests revel in its rich flavors and sublime texture.
