The Raspberry Pi is a small, inexpensive computer that has taken the world by storm. This tiny device is not only great for learning computer science but has also gained popularity for its versatility in various settings. Here are some awesome uses for a Raspberry Pi that you may not have thought of before.

1. Gaming Console

Have you ever wanted to play classic video games, but couldn’t find the console or cartridges you needed? With a Raspberry Pi, you can create your own gaming console with thousands of games built-in. All you need is a Raspberry Pi, a case, and a game controller.

2. Home Automation

With a few additional components, a Raspberry Pi can be transformed into a home automation hub. By using Internet of Things (IoT) sensors and controlling lighting, temperature, and security systems, you can control your home with ease.

3. Personal Media Center

Do you have a collection of movies, TV shows, and music? With a Raspberry Pi, you can create your own personal media center. Download media management software such as Kodi or Plex onto your device, connect it to a TV, and enjoy your content with ease.

4. Portable Mini Computer

Since the Raspberry Pi is small, portable, and doesn’t require a lot of power, it makes a great option for a portable mini computer. You can use it to browse the internet, work on documents, or even play basic video games. You can also add a battery pack to make it work without the need for a power outlet.

5. Weather Station

Using a Raspberry Pi, you can create your own weather station with real-time updates on temperature, humidity, and atmospheric pressure. You can even build your own sensors and customize your weather station with software to monitor various weather conditions.

6. Smart Mirror

One fun project that you can create using a Raspberry Pi is a smart mirror. This is a mirror that has an additional display embedded in it, where you can display useful information such as weather forecasts, calendar events, news headlines, and more.

7. Electronic Art Display

You can also turn your Raspberry Pi into an electronic art display. Using a platform called Processing or other code-driven tools, you can create electronic artwork and have it displayed on a monitor, TV, or even an electronic canvas or sculpture.

About Us

Since technology is not going anywhere and does more good than harm, adapting is the best course of action. That is where The Tech Edvocate comes in. We plan to cover the PreK-12 and Higher Education EdTech sectors and provide our readers with the latest news and opinion on the subject. From time to time, I will invite other voices to weigh in on important issues in EdTech. We hope to provide a well-rounded, multi-faceted look at the past, present, the future of EdTech in the US and internationally.

We started this journey back in June 2016, and we plan to continue it for many more years to come. I hope that you will join us in this discussion of the past, present and future of EdTech and lend your own insight to the issues that are discussed.
