Apple’s AirPort Extreme: What Happened to Apple’s Router?

Apple has always been known for its sleek and innovative products, especially in the world of technology. However, in 2016, the company made a surprising announcement that left many consumers scratching their heads: they were discontinuing their line of AirPort routers.

The AirPort line was initially introduced in 1999 and consisted of various Wi-Fi routers and network accessories. The AirPort Extreme, which was first released in 2003, was designed to provide users with high-speed internet access and increased range.

So what happened to Apple’s router? Many speculate that the discontinuation was due to the company’s shift in focus towards other products, such as the iPhone and iPad. In recent years, Apple has been placing more emphasis on its services and software, such as iCloud and Apple Music, rather than hardware.

Another reason cited for the discontinuation is the increased competition in the router market. Companies such as Google and Amazon have entered the market with their own routers, causing Apple to face stiff competition.

Despite discontinuing their routers, Apple still offers support for their existing AirPort devices. In addition, the company has recently released a new feature called HomeKit, which allows users to control their smart homes through their iPhones and iPads.

However, many loyal Apple fans are disappointed with the decision to discontinue the AirPort line. The routers were known for their simplicity and ease of use, as well as their ability to integrate seamlessly with Apple products.
