With progress comes change, and to deny that change is to handicap future generations. In this day and age, we can be plugged into the network 24/7, with a near limitless supply of knowledge at our fingertips. Technology has changed the way we live our lives, and it has also changed the way we learn.

Schools have begun adopting new ways to spread information and educate learners through computers, tablets, and smartphones, finally realizing and taking advantage of Digital and Mobile Learning. If you aren’t sure how to adapt these new educational mediums to your classroom, or even know exactly what digital or mobile learning is, here is a quick guide.

What Exactly Is Digital Learning?

In short, digital learning is the use of digital technology as a supplement for teachers to use in their classrooms. Many different opportunities come with digital learning, with personalized learning and lessons being the first and foremost. As a teacher, it is essential to connect with your students so that there is a mutual understanding of what information is being put out and what information is being absorbed.

By personalizing your lessons and tailoring the information for your students, you can make it far easier for them to understand and give them a greater chance of improving and getting better grades.

Applications like Pedagogue exist as a teaching aid to help facilitate digital learning by providing a platform to distribute information, whether it be via a stream based classroom or text messages you send across their social media network.

What Is Mobile Learning?

One might say that mobile learning is a type of digital learning. It involves taking the concepts of teaching and providing information and adapting it to run smoothly across mobile devices, such as a smartphone or tablet.

Mobile learning should not be confused with e-learning, which primarily takes place at a desk on a computer and is meant to give an in-depth analysis of the topic. Mobile learning differs because it takes place on different devices and aims to quickly distribute the information in manageable chunks for quick and easy learning on your phone.

How Would You Know When Digital Or Mobile Learning Is Appropriate For Your Classroom?

This is a tricky question to answer, as the only way you could be 100% sure is to go around to each student and ask them for a response. However, you can always look out for opportunities within your classroom to see if it would be beneficial.

If, for example, you think that class engagement might be down, you could diversify your lessons and include some fun lessons to maybe trick your students into engaging more.

Concluding Thoughts

Digital learning, and by extension, mobile learning, allows you to be progressive with your educational practices and lessons. This allows your students to engage in alternate ways that they might prefer to traditional methods. Variety is the spice of life, and having the choice will make your students a lot happier and engaged with the subject.
