In today’s tech-savvy world, where digital communication reigns supreme, email has been an indispensable tool for exchanging messages on a personal and professional level. But, it’s a well-known fact that the internet is not entirely secure, and email exchanges can be susceptible to prying eyes. To ensure your privacy and security, it’s essential to use encryption for your email communications.

Gmail is one of the most popular email services with over 2 billion active users worldwide, and it provides several security features to make email communications secure. One such feature is email encryption, which Google has incorporated natively into the Gmail platform. Here’s how to encrypt emails in Gmail.

Step 1: Sign in to your Gmail account.

Step 2: Click on the “Compose” button to create a new message.

Step 3: In the “To” field, enter the email address of the recipient.

Step 4: In the message body section, click the padlock icon “Confidential mode,” located above the message area.

Step 5: A setting menu will open where you can choose how long the email will be available for the recipient to access, set a password for the email, and choose to revoke the email any time you want.

Step 6: Click “Save” to apply the Confidential mode settings.

Step 7: Write your email message as usual.

Step 8: Once you have completed writing your email, click on the “Send” button.

Once you have sent the email, it will be encrypted with the security settings you selected. The recipient receives the mail with a link that prompts them to enter a password before accessing the message.

What’s more, Gmail’s two-factor authentication (2FA) authentication feature also provides an additional layer of security for your email communications by requiring a verification code generated by a physical device, such as a mobile phone, to be entered along with your password to access your Gmail account.

In conclusion, email encryption is a vital tool in protecting your privacy and ensuring secure communications. Gmail has natively incorporated confidential mode to encrypt emails to provide the highest level of data security. Follow the previously mentioned steps to encrypted email messaging in Gmail, and reap the benefits of secure communications.
