Do you want to work as a teacher in the great state of Florida? If that’s the case, you have come to the correct place. A short article on the processes of becoming a teacher in Florida may be found below.

Step 1: Complete a Teacher Preparation Program that has been Approved

All states in the United States require certified instructors to have at least a bachelor’s degree. You must finish the required number of undergraduate courses and standardized examinations and a recognized teacher certification program to receive your teaching certificate in Florida. On the Florida Department of Education’s website, you can find a list of recognized teacher education programs in the state.

Florida offers a wide range of course requirements, with over 40 separate required courses. Florida wants students to complete 30 semester hours in Elementary Education related-courses or a major in elementary education to be employed as an Elementary School teacher, and a major or 30 hours (semester) in the desired subject area for Secondary Education, according to its department of education website.

The prerequisite courses can be substituted with a passing score on the Florida Subject Area Examination or an American Board for Certification of Teacher Excellence credential. There are various routes to progress from a Temporary to a Professional Certificate, most of which require extra teacher education courses. Visit the Florida Department of Education’s website for information on necessary coursework.

Step 2: Pass the Requisite Exams

Florida Teacher Certification Examinations (FTCE) is in charge of licensure testing in Florida. Educators must pass the Florida Subject Area Examinations and the Florida General Knowledge Test. The FTCE Professional Education Test may be required of Professional Certificate candidates.

The two levels of licensure in Florida are a Temporary License for new educators, while a Professional License is for those who have fulfilled the competency standards.

Step 3: Complete and present an Application for a Florida Teaching Credential

Finally, send in a completed application for licensure. To begin your application for licensing, go to the Florida Department of Education’s website and fill out the online form. For first-time applicants, the FDOE website provides a checklist of documents that must be submitted with your license application.
