Windows 10 and 11, like previous versions of the operating system, allow users to customize their desktop. One way to customize the desktop is to add a sidebar, which can hold widgets or shortcuts to frequently used programs. Here’s how to add a sidebar to the desktop in Windows 10 and 11.

Step 1: Download a Third-Party Sidebar Program

To add a sidebar to the desktop in Windows 10 or 11, you’ll need to download a third-party program. There are several sidebar programs available, including Rainmeter, Desktop Sidebar, and ObjectDock. Choose the one that best suits your needs and download it.

Step 2: Install the Sidebar Program

Once you’ve downloaded the sidebar program, run the installer and follow the prompts to install it on your computer. Be sure to choose the appropriate options during the installation process, such as whether to launch the program at startup.

Step 3: Configure the Sidebar Program

After installing the sidebar program, you’ll need to configure it to your liking. Most sidebar programs have a settings menu where you can choose which widgets or shortcuts to display. For example, if you want to display a clock and weather widget, you’ll need to choose those options from the settings menu.

Step 4: Position the Sidebar on the Desktop

Once you’ve configured the sidebar program, you’ll need to position it on the desktop. Most sidebar programs allow you to drag and drop the sidebar to the desired location. You can position it on the left or right side of the screen, or even in the middle if you prefer.

Step 5: Customize the Sidebar

Finally, you can customize the sidebar to your liking. Most sidebar programs allow you to change the color, size, and opacity of the sidebar. You can also add additional widgets or shortcuts as needed.

Conclusion

Adding a sidebar to the desktop in Windows 10 and 11 is a great way to customize your computer and make it more efficient. With a sidebar, you can access frequently used programs and information quickly and easily. By following these steps, you’ll be able to add a sidebar to your desktop in no time.
