5 Great Raspberry Pi IDEs For Programmers and Students

Raspberry Pi is a credit-card-sized computer used for numerous purposes. It is run on Linux operating system and the Raspberry Pi Foundation designed it to promote teaching basic computer science in schools with easy to use software. Some people use it to power up their home automation, robotics, gaming or just to run their hobby projects. While the Raspberry Pi is a fantastic tool for learning and tinkering, it is important that developers take advantage of efficient tools for the development process. This article presents 5 great Raspberry Pi IDEs that programmers and students can use for efficient software development.

1. PyCharm
PyCharm is an excellent integrated development environment (IDE) for Python programming language. PyCharm is specifically designed for professional Python developers, so if you know Python, you’re good to go. PyCharm offers a great debugging tool, code completion, and a useful tool for efficient code writing.

2. Geany
Geany is a lightweight and robust IDE that supports many programming languages such as C, C++, Python, Ruby, and Java among others. Geany is an excellent IDE for Raspberry Pi because it supports Raspberry Pi’s Linux environment and modifications.

3. Thonny
Thonny is a Python IDE designed with beginners in mind. It has an intuitive interface, useful features, and an intelligent debugger. Thonny is specifically designed for Raspberry Pi, making it an excellent tool for students to start learning coding.

4. Adafruit WebIDE
Adafruit WebIDE is a web-based integrated development environment (IDE) designed for Raspberry Pi. It is beginner-friendly as it provides tutorials and sample codes for newbies. Adafruit WebIDE was designed for Raspberry Pi to help maximize the usage of the GPIO pins.

5. Arduino IDE
The Arduino IDE is arguably the most popular IDE for beginners in embedded systems development. It has a simple interface and is easy to use. The IDE was designed explicitly for the Arduino platform, but its support for Raspberry Pi is excellent.

In conclusion, Raspberry Pi is an excellent tool for programmers and students, and IDEs are essential for efficient software development.
