5 Ways to Deal with Being in Prison

1. Educate Yourself and Keep your Mind Active

One of the best ways to cope with being in prison is to educate yourself and keep your brain engaged. Look for opportunities to join educational programs, read books, or learn a new skill. By building knowledge and skills, you’re investing in yourself and staying mentally active.

2. Establish a Daily Routine

Structure helps reduce anxiety and promotes well-being. Developing a daily routine will give you a sense of control over your life even when circumstances seem to be out of your hands. Consistent routines can be as simple as waking up at the same time each day, working out, following a meal schedule, attending classes or work programs, and adhering to the designated recreational time.

3. Build Positive Relationships

It’s important to have healthy relationships with both other inmates and the facility staff. Be respectful and maintain boundaries both emotionally and physically with others. Remember that the most critical relationship is with yourself: stay positive, practice self-care, and seek out emotional support when needed from professionals or support groups available in the facility.

4. Stay Physically Fit

Practicing physical fitness benefits not only your body, but also your mind. Many prisons offer sports programs, workout equipment, or spaces designated for physical activities. Find activities that you enjoy and feel motivated by as they will make it easier to stick to a regular exercise regimen.

5. Seek Spiritual Growth

If you’re religious or spiritual, draw on those beliefs for strength during challenging times. Many prisons offer religious services or resources for spiritual growth which can help you build a sense of inner peace and hope for the future. You can also use the quiet moments of solitude as an opportunity to reflect on personal values, meditate, or channel positive energy through yoga or mindfulness practice.

In conclusion, while being in prison can be challenging both mentally and physically, adopting strategies to stay educated, maintain a routine, foster positive relationships, remain physically fit, and seek spiritual growth can help make the experience more manageable and productive. Focus on personal growth while managing the day-to-day challenges within the prison environment.

About Us

Since technology is not going anywhere and does more good than harm, adapting is the best course of action. That is where The Tech Edvocate comes in. We plan to cover the PreK-12 and Higher Education EdTech sectors and provide our readers with the latest news and opinion on the subject. From time to time, I will invite other voices to weigh in on important issues in EdTech. We hope to provide a well-rounded, multi-faceted look at the past, present, the future of EdTech in the US and internationally.

We started this journey back in June 2016, and we plan to continue it for many more years to come. I hope that you will join us in this discussion of the past, present and future of EdTech and lend your own insight to the issues that are discussed.
