5 Steps To Ensure Inclusive Technology For All Learners

If incorporated correctly, edtech can be used to create an engaging and efficient learning environment. However, if misused, edtech can shine a light on the inequalities in our education system. 

This article will discuss 5 steps that you can follow to ensure inclusive technology for all learners in your classroom. 

Step 1 – Vision 

Suppose your aim is to provide each student in your class with equal opportunities for educational technology. In that case, you will need to have a vision of what you want your lessons to look like and what technology is required. 

For example, you could plan to use desktop computers to complete tests, exams, and other assignments. Many educators enjoy providing their students with school tablets or laptops – they can then use this technology to complete homework tasks more efficiently. There are plenty of other ways teachers can plan to use edtech to enrich their students’ learning process. 

Step 2 – Inclusivity

The technology you will be using and how you use it needs to incorporate everybody in the classroom and all of the students’ special needs. 

For instance, if one of your students has never had access to a computer, you will need to use the technology in such a way that he or she feels comfortable. You could offer lessons that teach digital literacy – this way, students that have little or no knowledge of computers can learn the basics. 

Step 3 – Procurement And Purchase

If you do not have the funds to purchase the technology for your class, find a sponsor. You will need to explain that the technology will provide the students with better learning opportunities and plan for complete inclusivity in the classroom. Once you have the funds, you can purchase the relevant devices. 

Step 4 – Use

Once you have acquired the technology, you can begin incorporating it into your lessons. Make sure that you do not end up relying too heavily on the computers. In other words, you should find a balance between face-to-face teaching and using technology to teach. This is extremely important as students could begin to feel alone in their studies if you do not contribute to the lessons. 

Step 5 – Continuous Improvement

Once your classes have adjusted to technology, you should continuously be looking for ways to improve your teaching methods. You can do this by asking your students for their feedback or by discussing techniques with other educators. 

Pedagogue is a new app that allows teachers from all over the world to interact and share valuable teaching materials and methods. If you are looking for new and exciting ways to incorporate technology into your classroom, you could use this app to discuss options with other educators. 

Concluding Thoughts

If you want to ensure that technology is inclusively incorporated into your classroom, you need to think about these five steps: vision, inclusivity, procurement and purchase, use, and continuous improvement. 

You need to have a clear vision of what you want your classroom to look like. This vision needs to incorporate the needs and wants of every student in your class. You will then need to find the funds to purchase the edtech. Lastly, you should always look for ways to improve your use of technology in the classroom.
