5 Steps For Implementing A 1:1 Program

Technology is becoming a bigger and bigger part of modern education. The concept of a 1:1 program revolves around the idea of each student in a classroom receiving a device that is preloaded with work and textbooks. This creates a more personalized teaching approach that is better suited to the individual needs of each student. 

We will be discussing 5 steps that are essential when implementing a 1:1 program. 

Choose Suitable Software

There are more than enough choices for you when it comes to software that can be used in the classroom. For example, many teachers stick to big companies, such as Google, Microsoft, and Apple. However, this all depends on your preferences and what you have more experience working with. 

Select A Device

As with software, there are a lot of devices that you can choose from when it comes to the 1:1 program. If you have a bigger budget, you could provide your students with iMacs or iPads. However, many schools prefer more budget-friendly options, such as laptops or more affordable tablets. 

It would help if you always kept in mind how many students there are in your class. If there are quite a lot of students, you will have to spend a lot more money on these devices than if there were only a few students. For this reason, you should set yourself a budget before you purchase anything. 

User And Device Management

Once you have selected which operating system and device you will use, you need to figure out where you will store the products when they are not in use. You will also need to consider hardware and software maintenance and develop a user policy. Download your school’s LMS (Learning Management System) and set up the user accounts. 

Ensure System Security

Your devices need to be secure to prevent theft or malware being downloaded onto them. The first priority should be downloading an antivirus, such as Norton or Bitdefender. Ensure that you store the devices safely when they are not being used to prevent them from being stolen. 

PD For Teachers And Staff

Finally, teachers and staff members should be taught how to use and operate these devices properly. Educators might not know how to use new technology – for this reason, PD should be offered to them to bring their knowledge up to scrap. This will also make classes more efficient as teachers will not need to spend time figuring out how to operate the technology. 

Conclusion

The concept of a 1:1 program revolves around the idea of each student in a classroom receiving a device that is preloaded with work and textbooks. There are five steps that you should follow to implement this program. 

For starters, you need to choose suitable software for the devices. You then need to select which devices you will use and decide on the user and device management. An effective security system needs to be put in place to prevent theft. Finally, teachers and staff need to be educated on how to use the devices and software.

Since technology is not going anywhere and does more good than harm, adapting is the best course of action. That is where The Tech Edvocate comes in. We plan to cover the PreK-12 and Higher Education EdTech sectors and provide our readers with the latest news and opinion on the subject.
