4 Ways to Pick a Good Mango

Mangoes, the sweet and juicy king of fruits, are enjoyed by people around the world. Picking a good mango ensures that you reap the full benefits of its delightful taste and texture. In this article, we will explore four foolproof ways to pick a good mango.

1. Color

The color of a mango is one indicator of its ripeness. Although different varieties may have distinct color patterns, most ripe mangoes will have a bright yellow or orange hue. Some may even have a reddish tint. Avoid choosing mangoes that are completely green as this may indicate they are not ripe and won’t be as flavorful.

2. Firmness

Gently press your finger into the skin of the mango to assess its firmness. A ripe mango should yield slightly under pressure without feeling mushy. If it is rock hard or overly soft, it is likely either unripe or overripe, respectively.

3. Smell

A ripe and delicious mango will emit a sweet and fragrant aroma. The scent should be noticeable near its stem area. If there’s no scent or an off-odor, it’s best to move on to another mango.

4. Shape

A well-filled, plump, and slightly rounded shape indicates that the fruit has fully developed its delicious sweetness. An under-ripe or overripe mango may appear flat, shriveled, or with sunken sides – these should be avoided.

To sum up, picking a good mango relies on attention to color, firmness, smell, and shape. By following these four simple tips, you’ll be able to enjoy perfectly ripe and delicious mangoes every time you shop for them in your local grocery store or market!
