Introduction:

Safe Mode is a diagnostic mode for Firefox that allows users to troubleshoot problems and resolve issues. It temporarily disables extensions, themes, and hardware acceleration, making it an essential tool in diagnosing browser problems. This article will discuss three methods to start Firefox in Safe Mode.

Method 1: Restarting Firefox with the Shift Key

1. Close any existing Firefox windows.

2. Press and hold the Shift key on your keyboard.

3. While holding the Shift key, click on the Firefox icon to open the browser.

4. A Firefox Safe Mode dialog will appear. Click on “Start in Safe Mode” to proceed.

Method 2: Using the Firefox Menu

1. Open your Firefox browser.

2. Click on the three horizontal lines (menu button) in the top-right corner.

3. Select “Help” from the drop-down menu.

4. Click on “Restart with Add-ons Disabled.”

5. The browser will display a “Restart” dialog; confirm by clicking “Restart.”

6. When prompted with the Safe Mode dialog, click “Start in Safe Mode.”

Method 3: Using Terminal or Command Prompt

For Windows users:

1. Press Windows key + R to launch Run dialog.

2. Type “firefox -safe-mode” and press Enter.

For macOS users:

1. Press Command + Space to open Spotlight search.

2. Type “Terminal” and press Enter to launch Terminal.

3. Type “/Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/firefox -safe-mode” and press Enter.

Conclusion:

Regardless of which method you choose, starting Firefox in Safe Mode is essential for troubleshooting browser issues. By disabling extensions, themes, and hardware acceleration temporarily, you can identify the source of problems and resolve them effectively with minimal interruption to your browsing experience.
