Introduction:

Fennel is a flavorful and versatile vegetable that can be used in a variety of dishes. One of the tastiest ways to enjoy its unique flavor profile is by roasting it. Roasting brings out the natural sweetness of fennel while giving it a delightful caramelized texture. In this article, we will explore three different ways to roast fennel that will leave your taste buds singing.

1. Simple Oven-Roasted Fennel

Ingredients:

– 2 large fennel bulbs, fronds removed and sliced into 1/2 inch thick wedges

– 2 tablespoons olive oil

– Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions:

1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).

2. In a large mixing bowl, toss the fennel wedges with olive oil, salt, and pepper until evenly coated.

3. Arrange the fennel wedges on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and spread them in an even layer.

4. Roast for 25-30 minutes, or until the fennel is tender and caramelized on the edges, flipping halfway through cooking.

2. Balsamic Glazed Roasted Fennel

Ingredients:

– 2 large fennel bulbs, fronds removed and sliced into 1/2 inch thick wedges

– 2 tablespoons olive oil

– Salt and pepper, to taste

– 1/4 cup balsamic vinegar

Instructions:

1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).

2. In a large mixing bowl, toss the fennel wedges with olive oil, salt, and pepper.

3. Arrange the fennel wedges on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper in an even layer.

4. Roast for 20 minutes, or until fennel begins to caramelize around the edges.

5. Remove the baking sheet from the oven and drizzle the balsamic vinegar over the fennel wedges, tossing to coat them evenly.

6. Return the fennel to the oven and roast for another 5-7 minutes, until the balsamic glaze has thickened and caramelized.

3. Parmesan Crusted Roasted Fennel

– Salt and pepper, to taste

– 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions:

1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).

2. In a large mixing bowl, toss the fennel wedges with olive oil, salt, and pepper.

3. Arrange the fennel wedges on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper in an even layer.

4. Roast for 20 minutes, or until slightly caramelized.

5. Remove the baking sheet from the oven and carefully sprinkle each fennel wedge with Parmesan cheese.

6. Return the fennel to the oven and continue roasting for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until cheese is melted and golden-brown.
