3 Ways to Level a Washing Machine

Introduction:

A washing machine, when not level, can vibrate excessively, produce loud noises, and even damage the floors and walls of your home. Ensuring that your washing machine is on a balanced surface will extend its lifespan and reduce the wear and tear on all its components. Here are 3 simple ways to level your washing machine.

1. Adjust the Legs:

a. Washing machines are typically equipped with adjustable legs that allow you to raise or lower the unit as needed. To level your machine using this method:

b. Unplug the washing machine from the electrical outlet, and ensure it’s empty.

c. Use a bubble level or a carpenter’s level to check the current inclination of the washing machine.

d. Locate the adjustable legs; they can be found at each corner of the base of the machine.

e. If required, adjust the legs manually by turning them clockwise to lower or counterclockwise to raise until all corners are level.

f. Check the levelness again with your leveling tool and make additional adjustments if necessary.

2. Use Leveling Pads or Shims:

If your washing machine’s legs are not adjustable or have limited flexibility, leveling pads or shims can be a great solution.

a. Purchase appropriate leveling pads or shims from a hardware store or online.

b. Place one pad or shim under each leg of the washing machine, ensuring they’re evenly distributed.

c. Place your leveling tool on top of the washer again to ensure it’s level.

d. Make any necessary adjustments by adding or removing shims under each leg until the mashing machine sits evenly.

e. Test for stability by gently rocking the machine back and forth.

3. Install a Washing Machine Mat:

Washing machine mats are made of durable rubber material that helps absorb vibrations and noises while ensuring that your appliance remains level. They can be an excellent solution when the other methods fail.

a. Purchase a washing machine mat from a compatible brand for your specific model.

b. Place the mat on the floor where you want to install your washing machine.

c. Position the washing machine on top of the mat, making sure all four legs are firmly touching the surface.

d. Use your leveling tool to verify if your machine is level; if not, make necessary adjustments by either combining this method with one of the previous methods or selecting a different mat designed to correct uneven surfaces.

Conclusion:

Whether using adjustable legs, leveling pads, or a washing machine mat, make sure to choose the method that best suits your needs and space constraints. A properly leveled washing machine reduces noise, prevents damage to your home, and prolongs the life of your appliance. Happy laundry day!
