3 Ways to Leave a Group Chat on WhatsApp

Introduction:

WhatsApp is a widely used messaging platform, connecting friends, family, and colleagues from all around the world. Despite its many benefits, you may find yourself in a WhatsApp group chat that you’d rather not be part of. Here are three simple methods to leave a group chat on WhatsApp.

1. Directly Leave the Group:

To leave any group directly from within the chat, follow these steps:

a. Open the WhatsApp application on your smartphone.

b. Navigate to the group chat you’d like to leave.

c. Tap on the group chat name at the top of your screen.

d. Scroll down and tap on “Exit Group” at the bottom of the screen.

e. Confirm your decision by selecting “Exit” when prompted.

f. You’ve now successfully left the group.

2. Leave from Group Settings:

An alternate way is through group settings, which follow almost the same process with some specific differences:

a. Access the group chat you want to leave on WhatsApp.

b. Tap on the group name at the top of your screen to access details about the group.

c. Locate “Group Settings” and tap on it.

d. Choose “Exit Group” and confirm by tapping on “Exit” when prompted.

3. Use Mute or Hide Options:

If you don’t want to completely leave a group but are tired of constant notifications, try either muting or hiding it:

a. Mute: For this, access the same “Group Info” page as mentioned above by clicking on the group name at top of your screen and select “Mute Notifications.” Choose a duration (8 hours up to 1 year) and confirm your choice.

b. Hide: Hiding works by archiving a group chat so it will no longer appear in your main list of chats. Select the group chat in your main chat list, then swipe left (iOS) or long-press and choose “Archive” (Android). The chat goes into an archived section that can be accessed anytime.

Conclusion:

Leaving a group chat on WhatsApp doesn’t have to be complicated. With these three options at your disposal, you can easily manage the groups you’re part of and control the noise level in your digital life.
