3 Ways to Eat Panettone

Panettone, the classic Italian sweet bread, is a popular treat enjoyed during the holiday season. With its characteristic tall, domed shape and studded with dried fruits and nuts, panettone is not only delicious but also versatile for various culinary creations. If you’re looking to get creative with this festive staple, here are three delicious ways to eat panettone that you should try.

1. Toasted and Buttered

One of the simplest and most satisfying ways to enjoy panettone is to toast a slice or two and slather it with softened butter. The heat from the toaster brings out the rich fragrances of the fruit and spices, while the butter adds a delicious creaminess. This method elevates the taste of the panettone without losing its traditional flavor. To make panettone toast, simply slice your loaf into 1-inch thick pieces and toast them in a toaster oven or under a broiler until they’re golden brown. Finish with a generous spread of softened butter, and enjoy!

2. Panettone French Toast

Panettone makes for an excellent base for French toast because of its distinct flavor profile and dense texture. To make panettone French toast, whisk together some eggs, milk, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and a pinch of nutmeg in a shallow dish. Dip 1-inch thick slices of panettone into the egg mixture for

about 15 seconds per side, ensuring that they soak up enough liquid without getting too soggy. Heat some butter in a non-stick skillet over medium heat until melted. Cook the dipped slices until golden brown on each side. Top with fresh fruits like berries or sliced bananas, powdered sugar or maple syrup before digging in.

3. Panettone Bread Pudding

Transform your leftover panettone into a mouthwatering dessert by making bread pudding. To create this scrumptious treat, chop your panettone into 1-inch cubes, enough to fill a large baking dish. In a separate bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla extract, and a touch of cinnamon and nutmeg. Pour the egg mixture over the panettone cubes, ensuring that they’re all well-coated. Allow the panettone to sit for about 30 minutes in the mixture so it can absorb all the liquid. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for about 45 minutes or until puffed up and golden brown on top. Enjoy it warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a drizzle of caramel sauce.

In conclusion, panettone is as versatile as it is delicious. Beyond enjoying it straight from the box, consider making toast with butter, indulging in French toast or whipping up bread pudding to switch things up this festive season. These three methods not only bring out the full flavor of this delightful treat but also offer a fun and creative twist on holiday dessert options.
