What Is EID Number on iPhone and How Can You Find It

The world of mobile communication is constantly evolving, with technology bringing forward new standards and functionalities. EID, which stands for Embedded Identity Document, is one such innovation in the field of mobile telecommunications. So, what exactly is an EID number on an iPhone, and why should you know about it?

EID is akin to a digital SIM card that represents the next step in the evolution of SIM technology—ushering in an era where the physical SIM card might become obsolete. The EID number is a unique identifier for your iPhone that allows it to connect to a mobile network without the need for a physical Nano-SIM or a traditional SIM card slot.

As more carriers around the world support eSIM technology, EID numbers are gaining prominence. This uniqueness of each EID enables your device to be securely identified by mobile networks and can store multiple eSIM profiles. Essentially, it means you can have several phone numbers and data plans on a single device without swapping out physical SIM cards.

But how does one find this important piece of information on their iPhone? Here’s a step-by-step guide to locating your device’s EID number:

  1. Open the ‘Settings’ app on your iPhone.
  2. Scroll down and tap ‘General’.
  3. From here, tap on ‘About’.
  4. Scroll down until you see ‘EID’. Your EID number will be listed next to it.

It’s as simple as that!

However, remember that not all iPhones may have an EID number listed—this feature is exclusive to those models that support eSIM technology. As of my knowledge cutoff date, Apple has started incorporating eSIM capabilities in models from the iPhone XS and newer.

Knowing your EID can be particularly useful if you need to set up an eSIM profile or if you’re troubleshooting any issues with your mobile network provider regarding your digital SIM. With this knowledge, maneuvering through the technicalities of modern telecommunication features can be a bit less daunting.
