Wireless technology is one of the most rapidly advancing technologies in the world. With our smartphones, laptops, and other smart gadgets heavily dependent on Wi-Fi, it’s no wonder that the tech industry is always working on ways to enhance and improve Wi-Fi technology.

One of the latest advancements in Wi-Fi technology is the introduction of 6GHz Wi-Fi. This new Wi-Fi standard is set to operate at a higher frequency band of 6GHz as opposed to the usual 2.4GHz and 5GHz used in most Wi-Fi routers today. So, what are the benefits of 6GHz Wi-Fi, and how will it affect the Wi-Fi industry?

To start with, the additional frequency band of 6GHz will make it possible to have faster internet speeds, more devices connecting to Wi-Fi, and reduced interference. According to experts, 6GHz Wi-Fi will provide faster speeds than the current Wi-Fi 5 and Wi-Fi 6 technologies. In fact, it will be five times faster than the current Wi-Fi 5 technology and three times faster than the Wi-Fi 6 technology. It will also come with lower latency, which is essential for online gaming, video conferencing, and other latency-sensitive applications.

One thing worth noting is that 6GHz Wi-Fi technology is not an entirely new technology. It is a subset of Wi-Fi 6E, which was introduced in 2020. Wi-Fi 6E is a Wi-Fi 6 standard that offers additional features of expanded frequency bands, including the 6GHz frequency band. The Wi-Fi Alliance describes Wi-Fi 6E as the world’s most advanced Wi-Fi, with capabilities that allow faster data rates, lower latency, and better reliability.

So, is 6GHz Wi-Fi the same as Wi-Fi 6E? The answer is no. Wi-Fi 6E is a complete package, including all the necessary features that the 6GHz Wi-Fi band provides, plus other advanced features like OFDMA, MU-MIMO, and TWT. 6GHz Wi-Fi, on the other hand, only refers to the use of the 6GHz frequency band, which is one of the features of Wi-Fi 6E.
