What an Alexa Red Ring Means and How to Fix It

The Alexa red ring is something that many Alexa users fear, and understandably so. When this happens, it means that Alexa is having trouble connecting to your network, and that can make her rather useless. Luckily, there are a few things you can do to fix it, but before we get to that, let’s go over what the red ring means in the first place.

What Does the Alexa Red Ring Mean?

When Alexa’s light ring turns red, it means that there’s something wrong with the device. Specifically, it means that Alexa can’t connect to your Wi-Fi network. She might also be having trouble connecting to the Amazon servers, which can cause the same problem. When Alexa can’t connect, she can’t work properly, so it’s important to get the issue fixed as soon as possible.

How to Fix an Alexa Red Ring

Now that we know what the Alexa red ring means, let’s talk about how to fix it. Here are the steps you can take to get Alexa back up and running when she can’t connect to your network:

1. Restart Alexa: The first thing you should try is restarting Alexa. To do this, unplug the device from the wall and wait for about 30 seconds before plugging it back in. This should reset your Alexa and can often fix the issue.

2. Check Your Wi-Fi Network: If restarting Alexa doesn’t work, the next step is to check your Wi-Fi network. Make sure that your Wi-Fi network is working properly and that there aren’t any issues with your router. If you’re not sure, try connecting another device to your Wi-Fi network to see if it works. If it does, the issue may be with Alexa itself.

3. Move Alexa Closer to Your Router: If your Wi-Fi network is working properly, but Alexa still can’t connect, try moving her closer to your router. Sometimes, Alexa can’t connect to your network if she’s too far away from your router.

4. Reset Alexa to Factory Settings: If nothing else works, you can try resetting Alexa to factory settings. To do this, press and hold the microphone off and volume down buttons at the same time for about 20 seconds. This will reset Alexa to her default settings and can often fix the issue.
