When trying to sign in to your Windows computer, you may encounter an error message that reads, “The sign-in method you’re trying to use isn’t allowed.” This can be frustrating, especially if you don’t know how to fix it. In this article, we’ll explore a few ways to get around this error and sign in to your Windows PC.

1. Try a different sign-in method

If you’re using a password to sign in to your Windows PC, try using a PIN instead. Similarly, if you’re using a PIN, try using your password. This may seem like a simple solution, but it can often fix the issue.

To change your sign-in method, follow these steps:

1. Go to Settings.

2. Select Accounts.

3. Click on Sign-in options.

4. Choose the sign-in method you want to use.

2. Disable the “Use the sign-in info to automatically finish setting up my device after an update or restart” option

This option is used to speed up the sign-in process after an update or restart. However, it can sometimes cause the “The sign-in method you’re trying to use isn’t allowed” error to appear. To disable this option, follow these steps:

1. Go to Settings.

2. Select Accounts.

3. Click on Sign-in options.

4. Turn off the “Use the sign-in info to automatically finish setting up my device after an update or restart” option.

3. Check for Windows updates

Sometimes, this error can be caused by an outdated version of Windows. Make sure that your Windows operating system is up to date. To check for updates, follow these steps:

1. Go to Settings.

2. Select Update & Security.

3. Click on Windows Update.

4. Click on Check for updates.

5. Install any available updates.

4. Reset your Windows login credentials

If none of the above solutions work, you can try resetting your Windows login credentials. This will reset your password or PIN, allowing you to sign in to your Windows PC. To reset your login credentials, follow these steps:

1. Restart your computer.

2. Press and hold the Shift key while clicking on the power icon.

3. Select Restart.

4. Choose Troubleshoot > Reset this PC > Remove everything.

5. Follow the on-screen instructions to reset your Windows login credentials.

In conclusion, the “The sign-in method you’re trying to use isn’t allowed” error can be frustrating, but there are several ways to fix it. Try a different sign-in method, disable the “Use the sign-in info to automatically finish setting up my device after an update or restart” option, check for Windows updates, or reset your Windows login credentials. With these solutions, you should be able to sign in to your Windows PC with ease.
