Using Edtech to Meet the Needs of Lifelong Learners

In today’s fast-paced world, there is a big focus on life-long learning. Life-long learning is the self-motivated pursuit of knowledge for professional reasons. A person might engage in this type of learning to advance in their careers, prepare for a new career, or just expand their horizons. Employers want their staff members to be up to date with the latest developments in their fields. In all of these situations, lifelong learners are finding that the best solution for furthering their educations can be found with edtech.

How lifelong learning helps us all

Lifelong learners who engage in life-long learning are making significant and essential contributions to both the economy and society. Institutions of higher education have recognized these contributions and are using edtech to increase the variety and scope of the classes available to life-long learners. If the adult learner is not attempting to earn a degree from their experience, the information and practical application allow them to be better employees, enter a new career, or go back to school.

What are the needs of lifelong learners?

Lifelong learners have learning styles that differ from those of conventional or younger learners. These differences encompass a greater degree of autonomy and self-reliance, more maturity in their way of thinking, and more real-world experience about how ideas apply in society. In most cases, lifelong learners tend to have struggled with the tech. This is true for adults who are older as compared to those who are younger. Most lifelong learners have jobs and families, and therefore lack enough time to engage in a full-time educational program. Learners need a flexible solution that works with their current lifestyles.

Tech offers this flexibility so that adults with full plates can still find the time and means to make their academic dreams come true. From accelerated classes and digital credits to credit transfers from past educational programs, edtech can help lifelong learners get back on track and complete their educational goals.

Online content and classes that can be viewed anywhere and at any time are of high importance to lifelong learners who need educational opportunities centered around them and not the other way around. Lifelong learners want efficient lessons, meaningful activities, and purposeful assignments because their time is precious to them.

Like all other learners, lifelong learners also want regular and structured feedback as well as lessons that are attuned to their learning style.  Without the tech available today, it would be complicated for most of us to go back to college later in their lives. From colleges and universities to the workplace, all of society is embracing these newfound chances for people to become more educated, knowledgeable, and experienced in whatever field that suits or excites them.

Concluding thoughts

Edtech is accommodating to learners of all ages and can meet learners’ needs, such as alternative schedules or taking one only course. It is also a facilitator of higher education for most types of learners. Using tech for education has been expanding exponentially year by year, and we see this trend continuing well into the future. Edtech is a worthy investment for lifelong learners because it is exclusively prepared to suit their personal needs. I am not surprised to see learners taking advantage of it.
