JavaScript is an important programming language that runs in web browsers, allowing users to interact with websites and applications. Operators are essential elements of JavaScript that allow developers to create robust and dynamic applications. JavaScript has various types of operators that perform different operations on values or variables. In this article, we will discuss the types of JavaScript operators you must know.

1. Arithmetic Operators

Arithmetic operators are used to perform mathematical operations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. These operators are essential in creating mathematical algorithms in applications. The following are examples of arithmetic operators:
Addition (+): adds two numbers or variables

Subtraction (-): subtracts one number or variables from another

Multiplication (*): multiplies two numbers or variables

Division (/): divides one number by another

Modulo (%): returns the remainder of a division operation.

2. Assignment Operators

Assignment operators are used to assigning values to variables. This type of operator is essential in setting the values of variables in the code. The following are examples of assignment operators:
= : assigns the value on the right side of the operator to the variable on the left side

+= : adds the value on the right side of the operator to the current value of the variable on the left side

-= : subtracts the value on the right side of the operator from the current value of the variable on the left side

*= : multiplies the current value of the variable on the left side by the value on the right side

/= : divides the current value of the variable on the left side by the value on the right side.

3. Comparison Operators

Comparison operators are used to comparing values. These operators return a Boolean value of true or false depending on whether the comparison is true or false. The following are examples of comparison operators:
== : compares two values for equality, and returns true if they are equal

!= : compares two values for inequality, and returns true if they are not equal
< : compares two values, and returns true if the value on the left is less than the value on the right

> : compares two values, and returns true if the value on the left is greater than the value on the right

<= : compares two values, and returns true if the value on the left is less than or equal to the value on the right

>= : compares two values, and returns true if the value on the left is greater than or equal to the value on the right.

4. Logical Operators

Logical operators are used to make logical comparisons between values or variables. The following are examples of logical operators:
&& : returns true if both operands are true

|| : returns true if either operand is true

! : returns the opposite of the operand.

5. Conditional (ternary) Operators

Conditional operators are used to simplify if-else statements. The following is an example of conditional operator:
condition ? value_true : value_false.

This statement evaluates a condition and returns the value_true if the condition is true, or the value_false if the condition is false.

Conclusion

JavaScript has various types of operators that a developer must know to create effective code. Arithmetic, assignment, comparison, logical, and conditional operators are the essential operators that every programmer should have knowledge about. By using these operators, developers can perform various functions, comparisons, and calculations in their code. Understanding these operators is a significant step in mastering JavaScript programming.

About Us

Since technology is not going anywhere and does more good than harm, adapting is the best course of action. That is where The Tech Edvocate comes in. We plan to cover the PreK-12 and Higher Education EdTech sectors and provide our readers with the latest news and opinion on the subject. From time to time, I will invite other voices to weigh in on important issues in EdTech. We hope to provide a well-rounded, multi-faceted look at the past, present, the future of EdTech in the US and internationally.

We started this journey back in June 2016, and we plan to continue it for many more years to come. I hope that you will join us in this discussion of the past, present and future of EdTech and lend your own insight to the issues that are discussed.
