The Best Way To Make An Egg-In-A-Hole Breakfast Is With Your Sheet Pan

Spread the love

Egg-in-a-hole, the classic childhood breakfast that often entails cutting a hole in a slice of bread, dropping an egg into it, and frying everything up in butter, just got an upgrade. The best way to make this beloved breakfast is now with a sheet pan, making it perfect for serving a crowd or meal prepping for the week.

The secret lies in simplicity and scalability. While the traditional method is made-to-order, using a sheet pan allows you to cook multiple egg-in-a-holes at once. This efficiency is a game-changer for those busy mornings or when you are hosting brunch.

Here’s how to create the perfect sheet pan egg-in-a-hole:

Ingredients:

– 1 large sheet pan

– Butter or non-stick cooking spray

– A loaf of your favorite bread (sourdough or thick-cut works best)

– Eggs

– Salt and pepper to taste

– Optional extras: shredded cheese, chopped herbs, bacon bits, sliced avocado

Instructions:

1.Preheat your oven to 400°F (205°C). Grease your sheet pan with butter or non-stick cooking spray.

2.Cut out circles from each bread slice using a biscuit cutter or the rim of a glass.

3.Lay out the slices on the sheet pan with enough space to avoid overlap.

4.Gently crack an egg into each hole of the bread.

5.Season with salt and pepper, adding any optional toppings like cheese or herbs.

6.Bake in the preheated oven until the eggs are set to your liking—about 10-12 minutes for runny yolks or longer for firm eggs.

7.Remove from oven carefully as they will be hot! Serve immediately with sides of your choice.

One key tip is watching the eggs carefully as they cook; oven temperatures may vary, and so might preferences for how runny or cooked-through one likes their eggs.

Turning breakfast into a hassle-free yet delightful meal is all about efficiency and personalization. With a sheet pan approach, you can please various tastes by adding different toppings on separate sections of the bread, all while keeping the kitchen mess to a minimum.

This method isn’t just limited to breakfast; it’s versatile enough for any time of day when you’re craving something comforting and familiar but still want it hassle-free. Try it today and see why the sheet pan egg-in-a-hole could become your new go-to breakfast hack!
