Cleaning window screens can often be overlooked, but a clean screen is vital for clear visibility and to maintain the aesthetics and hygiene of your home. According to professional cleaners, following these steps will ensure the best results:

1. Remove Screens from Windows: The first step is to carefully remove the screens from the windows. Ensure you’re doing this on a non-windy day to prevent the screens from being blown away or damaged.

2.Dry Brushing:

Start by dry brushing the screens with a soft brush or a dusting brush to remove loose dirt, dust, and cobwebs. Do this gently to avoid damaging the screen mesh.

3. Rinse with Water:

Lay the screens flat on a clean surface outside and rinse them with a garden hose. Use a gentle spray setting to prevent any damage.

4. Prepare Cleaning Solution:

Professionals recommend creating a cleaning mixture of warm water and mild dish soap – it’s gentle enough not to damage the screen yet effective in removing grime.

5. Gently Scrub:

With a soft-bristle brush, gently scrub both sides of the screen with the soapy water mixture, paying special attention to areas with more significant buildup.

6. Rinse Again:

After scrubbing, rinse the screens thoroughly with water again using your garden hose. Make sure all soap residue is removed as it may attract more dirt if left behind.

7. Dry Screens:

Allow the screens to dry completely before reinstalling them. You can either leave them out to air dry or wipe them down with a microfiber cloth which won’t leave lint behind.

8. Check for Repairs: Before reattaching the screens, check for any damages like holes or tears and repair them accordingly to prevent bugs and debris from getting inside.

9. Reinstall Screens:

Once they are dry and repaired if needed, securely reinstall your window screens.

Regular maintenance and cleaning at least once or twice a year can extend the life of your window screens and help maintain their functionality and appearance. Remember never to put too much pressure on the screens during any step of the cleaning process as they can easily be bent or torn.
