Alexa, Amazon’s virtual assistant, is revolutionizing the way we interact with our homes. Alexa can help you play music, give you the latest news updates, control your smart home devices, and provide you with answers to pretty much any question you might have.

But what sets Alexa apart from other virtual assistants is the wide range of skills she has at her disposal. With over 100,000 skills available in the Alexa Skills Store, it can be daunting to decide which ones are worth downloading. But fear not – we’ve compiled a list of the best Alexa skills of all time, both free and paid, to help you get the most out of your device.

Free Alexa Skills:

1. Spotify – With the Spotify skill enabled, you can ask Alexa to play any song, playlist or artist you desire.

2. NPR One – Your favorite public radio network is available on Alexa. Prepare yourself for the most extraordinary news events, political commentaries, and in-depth investigations into interests.

3. Big Sky – Know about the present and upcoming weather conditions in your area and various locations across the globe. Get the information you need with up-to-the-minute forecasts by activating this skill.

4. Away Mode – Away Mode is an Alexa Skill was built by Hippo Insurance that plays unscripted recordings of people doing regular things in a home, such as cooking, talking on the phone, and washing dishes, so that potential intruders will think someone is home.

Paid Alexa Skills:

1. Headspace: Meditation and Sleep – Mindfulness helps people to ease stress, anxiety, and tune out the noise of daily life. You can now access hundreds of guided meditations and mindfulness exercises with Headspace: Meditation and Sleep. It’s accessible with a free trial but users who continue to use the app need to upgrade for an ongoing subscription.

2. Fitbit – Having Fitbit on your Amazon Echo enables you to get an update on your daily activity stats. You can also input your food consumption and get reminders to keep you on course towards your goals. You can engage with its ongoing subscription if required.

3. Sleep Sounds: The House – The House simulates the sounds of a sleep-friendly house, with a fireplace, grandfather clock, and other sounds of a cozy home to help put you to sleep. It’s a paid subscription allowing more access to different sounds.

4. Escape the Room – This challenging and exciting game brings the escape-room experience straight to your device. Players need to find clues and solve puzzles to escape different rooms.

In conclusion, these are few of the best Alexa skills you can try on your Amazon Echo device. But don’t let this list limit you! Keep experimenting and find the Alexa skills that work for you and your needs.

About Us

Since technology is not going anywhere and does more good than harm, adapting is the best course of action. That is where The Tech Edvocate comes in. We plan to cover the PreK-12 and Higher Education EdTech sectors and provide our readers with the latest news and opinion on the subject. From time to time, I will invite other voices to weigh in on important issues in EdTech. We hope to provide a well-rounded, multi-faceted look at the past, present, the future of EdTech in the US and internationally.

We started this journey back in June 2016, and we plan to continue it for many more years to come. I hope that you will join us in this discussion of the past, present and future of EdTech and lend your own insight to the issues that are discussed.
