Electric cars have been around for over a century now, and electric race cars have been making waves in the racing world for quite some time. With the advancement of technology and the increasing need for sustainable transportation, electric race cars are now dominating the racing world. Here are the 6 coolest electric race cars throughout history:

1. La Jamais Contente (1899)

The La Jamais Contente was the first electric car to exceed 100km/h (62mph) in 1899. It was powered by two electric motors, each capable of producing 50 horsepower. The car was designed by Belgian engineer Camille Jenatzy and was built by Compagnie Internationale des Transports Automobiles. The La Jamais Contente set the pace for electric racing cars and proved to be a game-changer in the history of racing.

2. White Zombie (1972 Datsun)

In 1994, the title of the fastest electric car went to the White Zombie, a 1972 Datsun that was modified by John Wayland. The car was powered by a pair of Netgain DC electric motors that produced over 500 horsepower. The car was also fitted with a custom-built battery pack that allowed it to travel over 100 miles between charges. The White Zombie set multiple records at drag racing events and proved that electric cars could indeed be fast.

3. Buckeye Bullet (2009)

The Buckeye Bullet was built by Ohio State University’s Center for Automotive Research in collaboration with Venturi Automobiles. The car was powered by a lithium-ion battery pack and had an electric motor capable of producing 700 horsepower. The car set multiple land speed records for electric cars, including the world record for the fastest electric car, at 341.4 mph (549.4km/h) in 2009.

4. Rimac Concept One (2013)

Croatian automaker Rimac Automobili unveiled the Rimac Concept One at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show. The car was powered by a 92 kWh battery and had four electric motors capable of producing over 1,000 horsepower. The car could accelerate from 0-60 mph in just 2.5 seconds and had a top speed of 221 mph (355 km/h). The Rimac Concept One was a revolutionary step forward in the world of electric cars.

5. Volkswagen I.D R Pikes Peak (2018)

The Volkswagen I.D R was a purpose-built electric race car designed to conquer the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. The car was powered by two electric motors that produced over 670 horsepower and was capable of reaching a top speed of 149 mph (240 km/h). The car set the fastest time for any vehicle at the Pikes Peak event, completing the course in just 7 minutes and 57.148 seconds.

6. NIO EP9 (2016)

The NIO EP9 is an all-electric hypercar produced by Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer NIO. The car has four electric motors that produce 1,342 horsepower and can accelerate from 0-60 mph in just 2.7 seconds. The car has a top speed of 217 mph (350 km/h) and holds multiple records for electric car lap times, including the fastest lap time at the Nürburgring Nordschleife circuit in Germany.

In conclusion, electric race cars have come a long way since the La Jamais Contente set the pace. These six electric race cars have pushed the boundaries of what electric cars can do. They have shown us that electric cars are not only environmentally friendly but can also be fast and exciting to drive. With the advancements in technology, we can only expect to see even more impressive electric race cars in the future.
