Alongside the SUV, Scout will introduce an electric pickup truck, entering the increasingly competitive electric truck market.

Design and Utility

The Scout pickup is likely to share many design elements with its SUV sibling, but with a focus on utility:

  • A versatile bed with multiple power outlets and storage solutions
  • Potential for a midgate design, allowing for extended cargo capabilities
  • Innovative features like a front trunk (frunk) for additional storage

Performance Expectations

As a work-and-play vehicle, the Scout pickup is expected to offer:

  • Impressive towing and payload capacities, potentially rivaling traditional gas-powered trucks
  • Multiple drive modes optimized for various tasks and terrains
  • Fast-charging capabilities for minimal downtime during work or long trips

Market Positioning

The revived Scout brand is positioned to compete with other adventure-oriented EV brands like Rivian, as well as electric offerings from traditional truck and SUV manufacturers. Pricing is expected to be premium but competitive, likely ranging from $50,000 to $80,000 depending on configuration.

Production and Availability

Volkswagen Group has announced plans to build these vehicles in the United States, with a new dedicated EV factory under consideration. Initial availability may be limited, with a gradual ramp-up of production expected.

Environmental Commitment

In line with Volkswagen Group’s broader electrification strategy, the Scout brand is expected to emphasize sustainability not just in its powertrains, but throughout its manufacturing process and supply chain.

Conclusion

The 2027 Scout SUV and Pickup represent more than just new entries in the electric vehicle market; they mark the rebirth of an American icon. By combining the rugged, adventurous spirit of the original Scout with cutting-edge EV technology, these vehicles have the potential to capture the imagination of a new generation of outdoor enthusiasts while appealing to those nostalgic for the original. As development progresses, the automotive world eagerly anticipates more details about these exciting new additions to the EV landscape.
