iPhone Microphone Not Working? Here’s How to Fix It

For most iPhone users, the microphone is a crucial component that they use on a daily basis. It’s necessary for making calls, recording videos, using Siri, and more. However, there are times when the iPhone microphone stops working or becomes harder to hear. If you’re experiencing this issue, don’t worry as there are some easy fixes you can try.

Clean the Microphone

The first thing you should do is clean the microphone. Often, dirt, debris, or dust accumulated around the microphone can make it hard to hear or not work at all. So, try to remove any dirt around the microphone with a soft-bristled brush or a toothbrush. You can also use a microfiber cloth to wipe the microphone gently.

Disable Bluetooth

Sometimes, your iPhone microphone issue can be tied to a Bluetooth connection. If your iPhone is connected to a Bluetooth device, it may disable the microphone. Check that your Bluetooth is disabled by going to ‘Settings’ > ‘Bluetooth,’ and turning it off.

Restart or Force Restart Your iPhone

A simple restart can fix many technical issues, and microphone problems are no exception. Press and hold the power button until the ‘slide to power off’ slider is displayed. Swipe right to turn off your iPhone. Wait a few seconds, then press and hold the power button again to turn your iPhone back on. If a regular restart doesn’t work, try a force restart by pressing the Home and Power buttons together until the Apple logo appears.

Reset Your iPhone Settings

If none of the previous steps worked, resetting your iPhone settings may fix the microphone issue. This will reset all your settings, but it won’t delete any data or content. Go to ‘Settings’ > ‘General’ > ‘Reset’ > ‘Reset All Settings.’

Update Your iPhone Software

In some cases, the iPhone microphone may stop working because of outdated software. Updating your iPhone to the latest software may solve the issue. Check for available software updates by going to ‘Settings’ > ‘General’ > ‘Software Update.’

Contact Apple Support

If all else fails, the issue may be hardware-related, and it’s time to contact Apple support for assistance. They will be able to detect and repair any hardware issues that are impacting your microphone.
