iOS 17.2: How to Turn Off Inline Predictive Text on Your iPhone
With the release of iOS 17.2, iPhone users have been introduced to a myriad of new features and improvements, including updates to the keyboard experience. One notable feature is the inline predictive text, which suggests words or phrases as you type, aiming to help you compose messages more quickly. However, not everyone finds this feature helpful, and some might prefer to disable it to gain a tidier typing interface or to stop feeling suggested words distracting. If you’re one of those who would rather turn off this function, here’s how you can do that on your iPhone running iOS 17.2.
1. Open Settings: Tap on the ‘Settings’ app from your home screen to access the different configurations for your iPhone.
2. Access Keyboard Settings: Scroll down and tap on ‘General’, then select ‘Keyboard’. This section allows adjustments related to typing and keyboard layouts.
3. Toggle Off Predictive Text: In the Keyboard settings menu, look for the option that says ‘Predictive’. Next to it, there will be a switch which by default is turned on. Tap on this switch to toggle off predictive text. When off, it should no longer show the green color which indicates that an option is enabled.
Once you have turned off the inline predictive text, the changes will take effect immediately when you use your keyboard next time. The absence of predictive texts means you’ll now have a clear field when typing without any suggested words popping up above the keyboard.
Note: If for any reason you want to enable this feature again in the future, you simply need to follow the steps mentioned above and toggle on the ‘Predictive’ switch in your Keyboard settings.
Remember that disabling inline predictive text does not affect other intelligent typing features such as auto-correction or smart punctuation; those settings are managed separately in your Keyboard settings if you wish to adjust them as well.
iOS 17.2 brings a high level of customization for users, and being able to control small features like inline predictive text ensures that every user can craft a mobile experience that suits their individual preference and style.
