Install Ubuntu on Your Computer Using a USB Flash Drive
Ubuntu is one of the most popular operating systems available today, and for good reason. It’s free, open-source, and incredibly versatile. If you’re interested in trying out Ubuntu and want to install it on your computer, you can easily do so using a USB flash drive. In this article, we’ll take you through the steps needed to install Ubuntu on your computer using a USB flash drive.
Step 1: Download Ubuntu
The first step is to download the Ubuntu operating system. You can do this by visiting the Ubuntu website (https://ubuntu.com/download) and selecting the version of Ubuntu you want to download. Make sure to choose the correct CPU architecture (32 or 64 bit) for your computer.
Step 2: Create a Bootable USB Flash Drive
To create a bootable USB flash drive, you’ll need a USB flash drive with at least 4GB of storage. Insert the USB flash drive into your computer, and then download and install the Rufus software (https://rufus.ie) on your computer.
Open the Rufus software and select the USB flash drive you want to use. Next, select the Ubuntu ISO file you downloaded in the first step. Under “Partition Scheme,” select “MBR” if your computer uses BIOS, or “GPT” if it uses UEFI. Make sure that the file system is set to “FAT32,” and then click on the “Start” button. This will create a bootable USB flash drive.
Step 3: Boot from the USB Flash Drive
Once you have created the bootable USB flash drive, you need to boot your computer from it. To do this, restart your computer and, during the startup, press the appropriate key (usually F10, F12, or Delete) to enter the BIOS or UEFI setup. Look for the “boot” or “boot order” section and change the boot order to prioritize the USB flash drive. Save your changes and restart your computer.
Step 4: Install Ubuntu
After you have successfully booted your computer from the USB flash drive, you will see the Ubuntu installation screen. Follow the on-screen instructions to install Ubuntu on your computer. You can choose to install Ubuntu alongside your current operating system or replace your current operating system entirely.
During the installation process, you will be prompted to choose a username and password, as well as select your time zone and language settings. Once you have completed the installation process, you can start using Ubuntu on your computer.
