Are you tired of your Android device updating automatically without your consent? Do you want to take control of your device and decide when to update? Look no further, as we have got you covered! In this article, we will tell you how to turn off automatic updates on Android.

Why turn off automatic updates?

While automatic updates can be convenient, they can also be a source of frustration for many Android users. Updates can cause compatibility issues with apps, drain battery life, and use up bandwidth. Additionally, some updates may not be necessary or have features that users do not need, making automatic updates unnecessary.

How to turn off automatic updates on Android?

There are a few ways to turn off automatic updates on Android. Here are the steps to follow:

  1. Turn off auto-update on Google Play Store:

Open the Google Play Store app on your device and tap on the three horizontal lines in the top left corner. This will open the menu.

From the menu, select settings.

Scroll down to “Auto-update apps” and select it.

Choose “Don’t auto-update apps” to turn off automatic updates completely, or “Auto-update apps over Wi-Fi only” to update only when connected to Wi-Fi.

  1. Turn off system updates:

On some Android devices, you can disable automatic updates in the settings app. Here’s how:

Go to your device settings app.

Scroll down until you see “System updates” and tap on it.

Look for the “Automatic system updates” setting and disable it.

  1. Disable services responsible for updates:

If you are using a custom ROM, you can disable services that are responsible for automatic updates. Here’s how:

Go to the app drawer and open the Settings app.

Tap on “About phone” or “About device” and locate the option that says “Build number” or “Software information.”

Tap on this option repeatedly until you see a message that says “You are now a developer.”

Return to the Settings app and select Developer options.

Scroll down to find the setting named “Automatic system update” or “Updates.”

Disable the toggle switch to turn off automatic updates.

Conclusion

Turning off automatic updates on Android can help you take control of your device and avoid unnecessary updates. Whether you choose to turn off automatic updates completely or only update when connected to Wi-Fi, it’s important to know how to turn off automatic updates to avoid unwanted surprises. By following the above steps, you can easily turn off automatic updates on your Android device.
