Have you ever wondered how digital artists create stunning graphics or logos that appear so crisp? Vector artwork is a simple, scalable method that can assist in achieving this.

Converting an image into vector shape may sound difficult, but it is quite simple, especially when using Adobe Photoshop. Adobe Photoshop is the most popular photo editing tool, which has the potential to convert to vector graphics.

In this article, we’ll go through the procedure of converting a picture into vector shape in Photoshop, step by step.

Step 1: Select a Picture

To begin, open the picture you want to convert to vector in Photoshop. Keep in mind that the photo must be a high resolution or it will look pixelated after the conversion. Pick and choose one with well-defined lines or shapes to make the method easier.

Step 2: Duplicate the Layer

After you’ve opened the image, duplicate the layer by selecting the ‘Layer’ option from the top menu and choosing ‘Duplicate Layer.’

Step 3: Convert the Layer into Shape

After duplicating the layer, switch to the ‘Paths’ panel. Go to the menu, select ‘Window,’ and then click ‘Paths.’ A new Paths window will appear.

Next, click the ‘Pen Tool’ in the toolbar on the left. Make sure the ‘Shape Layers’ option is enabled at the top of the screen. Click one of the anchor points on the image’s edge and continue around the edges of the image.

Step 4: Close the Shape Loop

When creating the path, ensure that you have closed the loop. If the path does not close, you will not be able to finish the conversion.

Step 5: Turn off the Original Layer

Once you’ve finished creating the path around the object in the photo, turn off the layer with the original image. To do so, go to your ‘Layers’ panel and click on the ‘eye’ icon beside the layer with the image.

Step 6: Save as AI file

Finally, go to File > Save As., choose ‘Illustrator AI’ as the file format, and save the file. Your image is now ready to be stored as a vector graphic that can be scaled in any dimension without losing quality.

Conclusion

Converting a picture into a vector shape is a simple process when using Adobe Photoshop, as outlined above. The process can be used to create stunning graphics, brand logos, or other vector-based designs. A vector graphic is a flexible and effective method that can be used in all forms of graphic design, and it is an essential skill for anyone interested in professional graphic design.
