Screen recording is a useful feature on a Mac that allows you to record the activities on your screen. It can be beneficial for creating tutorials, recording webinars, or even capturing your gameplay footage. However, there may be instances where you need to stop the screen recording. In this article, we will discuss the various ways to stop screen recording on Mac.

Method 1: Stop Screen Recording from the Menu Bar

The easiest and simplest way to stop screen recording on Mac is by using the menu bar. The menu bar is a set of options located at the top of your screen. Here are the steps to stop screen recording on Mac using the menu bar:

Step 1: Click on the “Screen Recording” icon that appears on the menu bar.

Step 2: Click “Stop Recording” from the dropdown menu.

Step 3: Alternatively, you can also use the keyboard shortcut “Command + Control + Esc” to stop screen recording.

Method 2: Stop Screen Recording from Dock

Mac’s Dock is located at the bottom of the screen and contains frequently used apps. If you have placed the screen recording icon in the Dock for easy access, you can use it to stop the screen recording. Here are the steps to stop screen recording from the Dock:

Step 1: Click on the “Screen Recording” icon on the Dock.

Step 2: Click on the “Stop” button to stop screen recording.

Method 3: Stop Screen Recording from QuickTime

QuickTime is a built-in tool in Mac that allows you to record screen activities. To stop the screen recording using QuickTime, follow these steps:

Step 1: Click on the QuickTime icon in the Dock or open it using the “Finder.”

Step 2: Click on the “File” option from the menu bar.

Step 3: Select “Stop Recording” from the dropdown menu.

Method 4: Stop Screen Recording from Keyboard Shortcut

If you have set up the keyboard shortcut to start screen recording, you can also set up a keyboard shortcut to stop the screen recording. Here are the steps to set up a keyboard shortcut to stop screen recording on Mac:

Step 1: Click on the “Apple” icon in the top-left corner of the screen.

Step 2: Select “System Preferences.”

Step 3: Click on the “Keyboard” option.

Step 4: Click on the “Shortcuts” tab.

Step 5: Select “Screen Recording” from the left sidebar.

Step 6: Double-click on the current keyboard shortcut to stop screen recording.

Step 7: Press the new shortcut key that you want to use to stop screen recording.

Conclusion

Screen recording is an essential feature on Mac, but it is equally important to know how to stop screen recording. You can use the menu bar, Dock, QuickTime, or keyboard shortcut to stop screen recording. Choose the method which works best for you and never worry about accidentally recording your screen for longer than desired.
