Windows 10 and 11 provide multiple ways to power off or put your PC to sleep, but using a keyboard shortcut can be the most convenient and easy-to-remember option. Whether you want to save time or just use your keyboard more effectively, using a shortcut key is a great way to get the job done.

Here is a quick guide on how to set up and use keyboard shortcuts to shut down or sleep your Windows 10/11 computer:

Setting up the Shortcut Key Combination: You can create a shortcut key combination for powering off or sleeping your computer using the following steps:

1. Right-click on the desktop and select “New” from the menu.

2. Click on “Shortcut.”

3. In the “Type the location of the item” field, type the following command for a shutdown shortcut: shutdown /s /t 0

4. For a sleep shortcut, type the command: rundll32.exe powrprof.dll,SetSuspendState 0,1,0

5. Click the “Next” button.

6. Give the shortcut a name, such as “Shutdown” or “Sleep.”

7. Click the “Finish” button.

Now that your shortcut is set up, you can assign a keyboard shortcut to it.
Assigning a Keyboard Shortcut:

1. Right-click on the shortcut icon you just created and select “Properties” from the menu.

2. Click on the “Shortcut key” field.

3. Press the key combination you want to use for the shortcut. For example, you could use “Ctrl + Alt + S” for the shutdown shortcut and “Ctrl + Alt + Z” for the sleep shortcut.

4. Click the “Apply” button.

5. Click the “OK” button.

Now, whenever you want to shut down or sleep your computer, press the assigned keyboard shortcut combination, and the action will take place.
