With the advent of Android version 11, Google introduced a brand new feature called Nearby Share. This feature allows Android users to easily share files, documents, photos, and videos with other Android users nearby. It uses Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and location services to connect two devices and transfer files between them. In this article, we will explain how to set up and use Nearby Share on Android.

Step 1: Check if Your Device Supports Nearby Share

Before getting started with the setup process, it’s essential to check if your Android device supports Nearby Share. To do this, head to your phone’s Settings and search for “Nearby Share” in the search bar. If your device is compatible, it will show up in the search results. If not, you will have to upgrade your device to Android 6 or above.

Step 2: Enable Nearby Share

Once you’ve confirmed that your device is compatible with Nearby Share, you can enable the feature by following these steps:

1. Open the Settings app on your Android device.

2. Scroll down and tap on the ‘Google’ section.

3. Look for ‘Device Connections’ and tap on it.

4. Choose ‘Nearby Share’ from the options.

5. Toggle the switch On to enable Nearby Share.

Step 3: Set Up Your Sharing Preferences

After enabling Nearby Share, it’s time to set up your sharing preferences. You can choose to share files with everyone around you, only with your contacts, or with specific people. Here’s how to do it:

1. Go to the Nearby Share settings and tap ‘Device visibility’.

2. You will be presented with three sharing options: All contacts, Some contacts, or Hidden.

3. Select your preferred option.

Step 4: Share a File Using Nearby Share

Now that everything is set up, it’s time to start sharing files. Here’s the step-by-step guide:

1. Open the file you wish to share. It could be a photo, document, or video.

2. Click on the share icon.

3. Find the Nearby Share icon in the list of sharing options.

4. Tap on it, and your device will start scanning for devices nearby.

5. Once the receiver’s device appears on the list, tap on it, and the file sharing process will begin.

Conclusion

Nearby Share is undoubtedly a handy feature for all Android users. It’s a quick and hassle-free way to share files with people around you. With these simple steps, you can easily set up and use Nearby Share to transfer files between two Android devices. So, get started with Nearby Share and start sharing, the easy way!
