How to Send Fake Location (Live and Current) on WhatsApp

As virtual communication becomes ever more prevalent, there are moments when one may feel the need to share a location that isn’t their actual current one. Whether you’re planning a surprise for someone, trying to maintain privacy, or simply playing a harmless prank, WhatsApp provides an effortless medium to share location updates. However, it’s important to use this feature responsibly and avoid using it for deceitful purposes. Here’s how you can send a fake live or current location on WhatsApp.

Before we start, remember that sharing your location, fake or real, should always be done with the best intentions in mind.

 Sending a Fake Current Location:

Step 1: Accessing the Location Feature

– Open a chat in WhatsApp with the person or group you want to send your fake location to.

– Tap on the paperclip icon (attachment) next to the message box and select “Location” from the list of options.

Step 2: Enabling Mock Locations

– For this step, you will need developer access on your phone.

– Go to your phone’s settings, find ‘About phone’, and tap on ‘Build number’ seven times. This will enable Developer Options.

– In Developer Options, look for “Select mock location app” and choose a fake GPS app that you have installed from the Google Play Store or iOS App Store.

Step 3: Setting Your Fake Location

– Open the fake GPS app and set your desired location by searching for a place or pinning a spot on the map.

– Start the fake GPS app so it can override your real location data.

Step 4: Sharing Your New Fake Current Location

– Go back to WhatsApp and tap on “Location” once again in the chat window.

– Instead of choosing “Share live location”, simply select “Send your current location”.

– WhatsApp will pick up the coordinates from your fake GPS app and send it as your current location.

 Sharing a Fake Live Location:

Step 1: Preparing Your Device

– Repeat Steps 1 through 3 from the previous section to prepare your device and set a fake static location using a third-party app.

Step 2: Sharing as Live Location

– With mock locations already enabled and running via your third-party app, return to WhatsApp.

– Open the chat where you want to share your location. Tap on ‘Location’ in the attachments options.

– Instead of selecting “Send your current location”, pick “Share live location”.

– Choose for how long you want to share this live location. Remember that during this period, any movement won’t be registered unless you change it manually in the fake GPS app.

Step 3: Sending Your Live Location

– After selecting the duration for sharing your live location, hit “send”.

Your recipient(s) will now see your location moving in real-time (although it would actually be stationary unless manually changed within the fake GPS application).

Please be advised that using these methods may go against WhatsApp’s terms of service and could potentially mislead recipients. Furthermore, constant use of mock locations can sometimes cause disruption with other apps relying on accurate positioning. Always consider ethical implications before opting to share a fake location with others.
