1. Gather your ingredients: To make Laffy Taffy, you will need sugar, corn syrup, water, cornstarch, butter, salt, food coloring, and flavored extracts or oils.

2. Prepare your workspace: Clear a countertop or table and cover it with wax or parchment paper. Lightly grease a baking dish to prevent the taffy from sticking.

3. In a medium-sized saucepan, mix together 2 cups of sugar, 1 cup of light corn syrup, and 1/4 cup of water until the sugar is fully dissolved.

4. Heat the mixture over medium heat until it reaches around 250°F using a candy thermometer. Keep the heat consistent to avoid burning the sugar.

5. Once the desired temperature is reached, remove the pan from heat and carefully stir in 2 tablespoons of cornstarch mixed with an equal amount of water.

6. Add 2 tablespoons of softened butter and a pinch of salt to the mixture and stir until fully combined.

7. Stir in your desired food coloring and flavoring oils/extracts into the mixture. For example, you can add a couple drops of red food coloring and strawberry flavoring for strawberry Laffy Taffy.

8. Pour the taffy mixture into your greased baking dish and let it cool until it’s easy to handle but still pliable (about 15-30 minutes).

9. Once cool enough to handle, start pulling and folding the taffy repeatedly for about 10 minutes. This process will give it the iconic chewy texture.

10. When you notice that your taffy has become lighter in color and has a firmer texture – it’s time to pull it into ropes.

11. Grease your hands with butter to prevent sticking, then take a small portion of the taffy and pull it into a rope shape, about 1/2 inch in diameter.

12. Use scissors or a sharp knife to cut the taffy rope into small, bite-sized pieces.

13. After you have cut your taffy pieces, wrap each piece in wax or parchment paper squares to keep them fresh and prevent them from sticking together.

14. Store your homemade Laffy Taffy in an air-tight container at room temperature for up to two weeks.

15. Enjoy your freshly made Laffy Taffy with friends and family, sharing the joy of this delicious homemade treat!
