Egg drop soup is a classic Chinese dish that is not only delicious but also incredibly simple to make. With minimal ingredients and just five steps, you can have a hearty and warm bowl of egg drop soup in no time. Follow these easy steps to make your own egg drop soup at home.

Step 1: Prepare the ingredients

To make egg drop soup, you will need the following ingredients:

– 4 cups chicken or vegetable broth

– 2 eggs

– 1 tablespoon cornstarch

– 2 tablespoons water

– Salt and pepper to taste

– Optional garnish: green onions, sesame oil, or soy sauce

Step 2: Heat the broth

In a medium saucepan, bring the chicken or vegetable broth to a rolling boil over medium heat. While the broth is heating up, whisk together the cornstarch and water in a small bowl until smooth. This mixture will help thicken the soup later on.

Step 3: Thicken the broth

Once the broth is boiling, slowly pour in the cornstarch mixture while continuously stirring. The broth should thicken slightly after about a minute. If you prefer a thicker soup, you can add more cornstarch mixture; just be sure to mix it well with water before adding it to avoid clumps.

Step 4: Add in beaten eggs

In a small bowl, whisk the eggs until they are well beaten. Then, slowly drizzle the beaten eggs into the boiling soup while continuously stirring. The eggs will cook upon contact with the hot liquid and create delicate wisps of egg throughout the soup.

Step 5: Final touches and serving

Once all of the beaten eggs have been added to the soup, turn off the heat and season with salt and pepper to taste. Optionally, you can garnish your egg drop soup with sliced green onions, a drizzle of sesame oil, or a splash of soy sauce. Serve the soup in bowls while it’s still hot and enjoy!

There you have it: a simple and delicious egg drop soup recipe that can be made in just five easy steps. Give it a try and get ready to impress your family and friends with this classic Chinese dish!
