Dippy eggs, also known as soft-boiled eggs, are a delicious and easy-to-make breakfast staple. With their creamy yolks and firm whites, they’re the perfect accompaniment to toast soldiers or a hearty slice of bread. Follow these 10 simple steps to enjoy perfect dippy eggs every time.

1. Prepare your equipment: You’ll need a small saucepan, a slotted spoon, an egg cup or small bowl, and a timer.

2. Choose your eggs: Fresh eggs produce the best results for dippy eggs. Check the expiration date on the carton and make sure the shells are clean and free of cracks.

3. Bring water to a boil: Fill the saucepan with enough water to cover the eggs by about 1 inch (2.5 cm) and bring it to a rolling boil over medium-high heat.

4. Lower the heat: Reduce the heat to medium-low, keeping the water at a gentle simmer rather than a vigorous boil. This will prevent the shells from cracking during cooking.

5. Add the eggs: Gently lower each egg into the simmering water using a slotted spoon. Be careful not to drop them in as this can cause cracking.

6. Set your timer: For soft, dippy yolks and firm whites, set your timer for 4-5 minutes after placing the eggs in the water. For firmer yolks, cook for 6-7 minutes.

7. Toast preparation: While your eggs are cooking, prepare your toast soldiers or bread for dipping by lightly toasting them and cutting them into strips or pieces that can easily be dipped into the egg yolk.

8. Remove the eggs: As soon as your timer goes off, use the slotted spoon to carefully lift each egg from the water and gently place it in an egg cup or small bowl with the narrow end facing up.

9. Crack the shells: Using a teaspoon or the edge of a butter knife, gently tap around the egg’s equator. Once you have cracked the shell all the way around, carefully lift off the top to reveal the soft yolk.

10. Dig in: Grab your toast soldiers or bread and get ready to dip into your perfectly cooked dippy egg. Enjoy!

In just 10 simple steps, you’ve created a delicious and satisfying breakfast that will delight your taste buds and start your day on a high note. Don’t be afraid to experiment with your dippy eggs—add some seasonings, use different types of bread, or even pair them with other tasty ingredients to create memorable dishes that are unique to your kitchen. Happy dipping!
