How to Like and Dislike Songs on Spotify (and Why You Should)

As music streaming platform Spotify continues to grow in popularity, it’s becoming increasingly important for users to curate their individual listening experiences. One way to do this is by liking and disliking songs on the app. Not only does this improve personalization, but it also helps Spotify’s algorithm provide better recommendations.

So, how do you like and dislike songs on Spotify? It’s actually quite simple.

When listening to a song, you’ll notice three icons at the bottom of the screen: a heart, a plus sign, and a circle with line through it. Click the heart icon to like a song, and the circle icon to dislike a song.

But why should you bother liking and disliking songs?

Firstly, liking songs on Spotify helps the app’s algorithm suggest new music. For example, if you consistently listen to indie rock and like a lot of songs in that genre, Spotify will take note of that and start suggesting more indie rock artists for you to check out. The same goes for disliking songs – if you’re constantly skipping over a particular artist or genre, Spotify will pick up on that and stop suggesting similar content.

Furthermore, liking songs on Spotify creates a personalized playlist for you called “Your Daily Mix.” This playlist includes songs similar to those you’ve already liked, making it great for discovering new artists and music you might enjoy.

Disliking songs also helps stop repetitive music from showing up on shuffle. If you dislike a song, Spotify is less likely to play it in the future, meaning you won’t have to keep skipping over it.

In conclusion, liking and disliking songs on Spotify is an easy and effective way to improve your listening experience. Not only does it allow the app to recommend better music, but it also helps you create personalized playlists and stops repetitive songs from showing up. So, next time you’re enjoying some tunes on Spotify, take a moment to like or dislike a few songs – your ears will thank you.
