If you’ve run into the “Print Spooler Service Is Not Running” error on Windows, you’re not alone. This error can be frustrating, but fortunately, there are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot and fix the problem.

Here are some common reasons why you might encounter this error:

– A corrupted print job is stuck in the printer queue

– The print spooler service has stopped running or is not set to start automatically

– A third-party service or program is interfering with the print spooler service

– A bad printer driver is causing the issue

Now, let’s look at some potential solutions:

Solution #1: Clear the Print Queue

A corrupted print job might be stuck in the printer queue, preventing new jobs from being printed. To clear the queue, follow these steps:

  1. Press the Windows key + R to open the Run dialog box.
  2. Type services.msc and hit Enter to open the Services window.
  3. Look for the Print Spooler service and double-click on it.
  4. Click on the Stop button to stop the service.
  5. Open File Explorer and navigate to C:\Windows\System32\spool\PRINTERS.
  6. Delete all the files in that folder.
  7. Go back to the Services window and start the Print Spooler service again.

Solution #2: Restart the Print Spooler Service

If the print spooler service has stopped running or is not set to start automatically, you can restart it to see if that fixes the issue. Here’s how:

  1. Open the Services window again.
  2. Look for the Print Spooler service and right-click on it.
  3. Click on Restart.
  4. If the service was set to Manual or Disabled, change it to Automatic.
  5. Start the service if it’s not running.

Solution #3: Uninstall Third-Party Programs

Sometimes, third-party programs or services can interfere with the print spooler service. To troubleshoot this issue, you can try uninstalling any recently installed programs or services and see if that resolves the problem.

Solution #4: Update or Reinstall Printer Drivers

If the printer drivers are outdated, corrupt, or incompatible with your system, the print spooler service might not work properly. To fix this issue, update or reinstall the printer drivers.

Here’s how:

  1. Press the Windows key + X and select Device Manager from the menu.
  2. Expand the Print queues section.
  3. Right-click on your printer and select Update driver.
  4. If Windows can’t find a new driver, visit the manufacturer’s website and download the latest driver from there.

5. Uninstall and then reinstall the printer driver.
