Have you ever been stuck with a frustrating error message that says “The parameter is incorrect” while working on your Windows PC? It may be frustrating, but don’t worry, it’s a common error that can be fixed. In this article, we’ll guide you through some easy steps on how to fix this error.

What causes “The Parameter is Incorrect” error?

The error message usually occurs when the computer system or program cannot understand or process information due to incorrect parameters or arguments. This error can happen while copying or moving files, installing new software, running System Restore or Backup, or even while using a USB drive or external hard disk.

Steps to fix “The Parameter is Incorrect” error:

1. Check your USB or external hard disk drive :

As mentioned before, the error can occur while using a USB or external hard drive. It can be caused by an incorrect file system format, corrupted files, or outdated drivers. Open the “Device Manager” and look for any driver updates or errors related to your external device. If the file system is the issue, reformat the drive with the correct file system format.

2. Check the file path :

Make sure that the path where you are copying or moving the file doesn’t have any invalid characters. Invalid characters include special characters like “&,” “%,” “*” that can cause an error in the file path. Remove any invalid characters from the file path.

3. Check your antivirus :

Antivirus software can also cause the error message to appear while running any software or program. Disable your antivirus software temporarily and then try running the program again. If the issue goes away, then your antivirus might be the root cause of the error.

4. Use Command Prompt and run Checkdisk :

Press Windows + R to open the Run dialog box. Type “cmd” and press Enter to open the Command Prompt. Type “chkdsk /f” and press Enter to check the disk for errors. This will scan the hard drive for any errors and fix them, which may resolve the parameter is incorrect error.

5. Run a System File Checker (SFC) scan :

Open Command Prompt as an administrator and type “sfc /scannow” and press Enter. This will run a full scan of your system files and detect any corrupted files or issues that are causing the error.

Conclusion :

In conclusion, the parameter is incorrect error can cause frustration for Windows users, but with these above-mentioned fixes, the error can be resolved quickly. Try these fixes, and if the error persists, contact a computer specialist or consult Windows support for further assistance.
