How to Fix the “Device Doesn’t Support Miracast” Error in Windows 11

Miracast is a wireless display standard that allows you to mirror your computer or mobile device’s display to a TV, monitor or projector. Despite being a wireless technology, it requires certain hardware components to be present in the devices involved in the process. Miracast has been around for a while, but it’s not always going to work the way you want it to. Sometimes, you might come across an error message that says “Device doesn’t support Miracast”. Don’t worry, though, because there are several solutions that can help you fix this error.

Here are some ways to fix the “Device Doesn’t Support Miracast” error in Windows 11:

1. Update System Drivers

The first thing you can do is check if your computer has the latest system drivers installed. Outdated drivers can cause various conflicts and errors, including the “Device Doesn’t Support Miracast” error. To update your system drivers, go to the Device Manager and look for updates for your display and network drivers.

2. Enable the Wi-Fi Direct Feature

Check if the Wi-Fi Direct feature on your computer is enabled. Wi-Fi Direct allows devices to connect to each other over Wi-Fi without the need for a traditional Wi-Fi network. To enable Wi-Fi Direct, go to the Settings app in Windows 11, click on “Network & Internet”, and then choose “Wi-Fi”. Click on “Advanced options” and toggle the “Wi-Fi Direct” switch to the “On” position.

3. Check Hardware Compatibility

Make sure that your device supports Miracast. Miracast is a hardware-specific feature, which means it requires compatible hardware to work. Check your hardware specifications by searching for your device model online and looking for Miracast compatibility information.

4. Disable Any VPN or Proxy Connections

If you use VPN or proxy connections on your computer, try disabling them and test to see if the error goes away. VPNs and proxies can interfere with your computer’s network settings and cause problems with Miracast.

5. Use a Miracast Adapter

If none of the solutions above work for you, try using a Miracast adapter instead. These devices connect to your TV or display and allow you to wirelessly stream content from your computer, even if it doesn’t support Miracast directly. You can buy a Miracast adapter online or from your local technology store.

In conclusion, the “Device Doesn’t Support Miracast” error can be frustrating but can also be fixed relatively easily. Updating system drivers, enabling the Wi-Fi Direct feature, checking hardware compatibility, disabling VPN or proxy connections, or using a Miracast adapter can all help you get your wireless display working properly. Try these solutions to get your Miracast up and running in no time.
