Mshtml.dll is a Dynamic Link Library file that is an essential component of most Windows operating systems, including Windows 10. This file is responsible for rendering web pages and displaying them correctly in web browsers, including Internet Explorer, Edge, and others.

If you encounter a missing or not found error message related to the Mshtml.dll file, it can prevent you from using your web browsers and accessing important web pages, which can be frustrating. Here are some quick and easy steps to follow to fix the Mshtml.dll not found or missing errors.

Step 1: Restart Your Computer

Before doing anything else, try restarting your computer as this typically resolves most DLL errors. If the error persists after rebooting, proceed to the following steps.

Step 2: Check Your Recycle Bin

Sometimes, users accidentally delete important files, including the Mshtml.dll file. If this happens, check your Recycle Bin to see if it’s still there. If it is, restore it from the Recycle Bin to its original location.

Step 3: Run System File Checker

The System File Checker (SFC) tool scans your computer for corrupt or missing system files and repairs them automatically. Here’s how to run this tool:

1. Open the Command Prompt as an administrator by pressing Windows + X and selecting Command Prompt (Admin).

2. In the Command Prompt window, type “sfc /scannow” and press Enter.

3. Wait for the scan to complete. This may take some time, depending on the size of your system files.

4. If any errors are found, the SFC tool will automatically repair them.

Step 4: Run DISM Command

DISM command helps to repair system issues that cannot be repaired by SFC tool alone. Here’s how to run this tool:

1. Open the Command Prompt as an administrator and type “DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth”

2. Wait for the scan to complete. This may take some time depending on the current status of your computer.

3. Once completed, restart your computer.

Step 5: Reinstall Microsoft Internet Explorer

Since Mshtml.dll is responsible for running Internet Explorer, reinstalling the browser may help fix the problem. Here’s how to do it:

1. Open the Control Panel and select Programs and Features.

2. Select Turn Windows features on or off.

3. Uncheck the box next to Internet Explorer to uninstall it.

4. Restart your computer.

5. Re-enable the Internet Explorer option from the Turn Windows features on or off menu.

6. Restart your computer again.

Once you have completed these steps, your Mshtml.dll issue should be resolved. Most users found that this resolved the error issue; if not, it is better to reinstall the OS to completely resolve the issue.
