How to Fix “iMessage Not Delivered” on Your iPhone

iMessage is one of the most popular messaging platforms that Apple devices use to communicate with each other. It’s fast, reliable, secure, and allows you to send messages to other iPhone, iPad, or Mac users without any additional fees. However, there are times when you encounter the “iMessage not delivered” error message despite having a stable internet connection. Worry not as we will discuss how you can fix this error on your iPhone.

Check your internet connection

iMessage requires a stable internet connection, whether you’re using Wi-Fi or cellular data. If you’re on Wi-Fi, make sure that you are connected to a strong network with a decent bandwidth. You can try resetting your network settings by going to Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. If you’re using cellular data, ensure that you have an active data plan and signal strength.

Check the recipient’s phone number or email address

Another common reason why iMessage fails to deliver is when you entered the wrong phone number or email address. Check if the recipient’s device is registered to iMessage or if the email address is correct. Sometimes a minor typo can cause the delivery problem.

Toggle iMessage on and off

Turning off iMessage and then turning it back on can sometimes resolve the problem. To do this, go to Settings > Messages, and toggle off the iMessage switch. Wait for a few seconds, and then toggle it back on. This will force your iPhone to re-establish a connection with Apple’s iMessage server.

Check your Apple ID and iCloud settings

iMessage requires an active Apple ID and iCloud account to work correctly. Make sure that you are signed in to your iCloud account by going to Settings > iCloud. If you aren’t already signed in, enter your Apple ID and password to activate it.

Update iOS to the latest version

Apple regularly releases software updates that address various bugs and issues. To ensure that your iPhone’s operating system is up-to-date, go to Settings > General > Software Update. If there’s an update available, tap Download and Install. Once the update is complete, check if the “iMessage not delivered” error still persists.

Reset your iPhone

As a last resort, you may perform a reset on your iPhone to fix any software-related issues. There are two ways to reset your device: a soft reset and a hard reset. A soft reset simply restarts your iPhone, while a hard reset restores it to its factory settings. Both methods erase all data on your iPhone, so it’s essential to backup all important files before resetting your device.
