When it comes to upgrading or troubleshooting your computer, knowing what motherboard you have can be a crucial piece of information. This information will allow you to determine which components are compatible, download the correct drivers, and perform updates or repairs. However, it’s not always easy to find out what motherboard you have. Luckily, we’ve put together a guide to help you find this information on your own.

Method 1: Check System Information

One of the easiest ways to find out what motherboard you have is to check the system information on your computer. Here’s how to do it:

1. Press the Windows key + R to open the Run dialog box.

2. Type in “msinfo32” and hit enter. This will open the System Information window.

3. In the left-hand pane, click on “System Summary.”

4. Look for the “BaseBoard Manufacturer” and “BaseBoard Model” entries. These will tell you the manufacturer and model of your motherboard.

Method 2: Open the Computer Case

If you’re comfortable opening up your computer, you can physically inspect the motherboard to find out what model it is. Here’s how to do it:

1. Shut down your computer and unplug it from the outlet.

2. Remove the side panel of the computer case.

3. Locate the motherboard, which will be the largest circuit board in the case.

4. Look for the manufacturer’s logo and model number printed on the motherboard.

Method 3: Use System Identification Software

There are several free applications that can scan your computer and provide detailed information about the components installed, including the motherboard. Here are a few examples:

1. CPU-Z: This program provides information about the CPU, motherboard, and memory installed on your computer. After downloading and installing the program, click on the “Mainboard” tab to see the motherboard model and manufacturer.

2. Speccy: This application generates a comprehensive report about your computer’s components, including the motherboard. After downloading and installing the program, click on the “Motherboard” tab to see the manufacturer and model.

3. HWiNFO: This program provides detailed information about the components installed on your computer, including the motherboard. After downloading and installing the program, expand the “Motherboard” category to see the manufacturer, model, and other relevant information.
