How to find and use a Ditto in Pokemon Go

Ditto, the unique purple blob Pokémon, is famous for the ability to transform into any Pokémon it encounters. This shape-shifting Pokémon has become a bit of an enigma within the world of Pokémon Go. Many trainers wish to find and capture a Ditto for its rarity, its essential role in completing specific research tasks, or simply to complete their Pokédex. In this article, we’ll guide you on how to find and use a Ditto effectively within Pokémon Go.

1. Know the potential Ditto disguises

Unlike other Pokémon you encounter, Ditto is rarely found in its original form. It hides as other common Pokémon. The pool of possible disguises changes periodically by Niantic (the creators of Pokémon Go), but some consistent suspects include Pidgey, Rattata, Zubat, Gastly, Sentret, Hoothoot, Whismur, Gulpin, and Numel. The current list can be found on various fan websites and social media channels devoted to Pokémon Go; be sure to check these sources frequently for updates.

2. Hunt in high density spawn areas

When searching for a disguised Ditto, you’ll increase your chances of encountering one by visiting areas with many spawn points. This includes places such as shopping centers, parks, or popular city centers where there’s increased cellular data usage and more could find other players.

3. Catch them all

You won’t know if you’ve encountered a Ditto until after you catch what appears to be a standard Pokémon. Therefore, it’s recommended to catch all potential disguises when hunting for a Ditto. This may be time-consuming and drain your resources but it’s ultimately worth it once you have one in your collection.

4. Look out for Field Research tasks

Pokémon Go occasionally offers Field Research tasks related to catching certain types of Pokémon or with specific requirements that give you a chance to find a Ditto as a reward. Keep an eye on your Field Research tasks and pay attention to potential Ditto-related tasks when completing them.

5. Using a Ditto in battles

A captured Ditto is not only an accomplishment but also a valuable asset in battles. When used in gyms or raids, Ditto will transform into the first Pokémon that appears on the opponent’s team. It adapts the same moves and stats (except for HP) of that Pokémon but maintains its own level and IVs. This unique ability makes Ditto a wildcard choice when facing higher-level opponents, as it can potentially match their power.

6. Cooperation

Since other trainers in your local community are most likely searching for Ditto as well, be sure to share any information about potential Dittos you’ve found with them. Forming groups and exchanging intel on local nests or spawn points could lead to success.

In conclusion, finding and using a Ditto in Pokémon Go requires patience, persistence, and cooperation. By understanding its disguises, focusing on high-traffic areas, completing related research tasks, and working with fellow trainers, you’ll have this elusive Pokémon in your collection before you know it. Good luck!
