Google Maps is a popular mapping and navigation service that provides users with real-time traffic and directions for different modes of transportation such as walking, cycling, driving, and public transit. It offers millions of points of interest from all over the world, making traveling more convenient and accessible. However, sometimes the suggested route may not be the best one. That’s why it’s important to know how to find alternate routes on Google Maps.

Here are some easy steps to find alternate routes on Google Maps:

Step 1: Open the Google Maps app or website

First, launch the Google Maps app on your phone or open the website in your web browser.

Step 2: Enter your starting point and destination

Enter the starting point and destination of your journey in the search bar. You can use an address, landmark, or the name of the place.

Step 3: Choose your mode of transportation

Choose the mode of transportation you plan to use by tapping the icon at the top of the screen. Google Maps offers several options, such as driving, public transit, walking, and cycling.

Step 4: Get directions

Tap on the “Directions” button located at the bottom of the screen. Google Maps will automatically calculate the fastest or shortest route based on your selected mode of transportation and current traffic conditions.

Step 5: View alternate routes

To find alternate routes, tap on the three vertical dots located in the top-right corner of the screen. This will open a dropdown menu; select “Route options.”

Step 6: Choose your route preference

Under “Route options,” you can choose from various preferences, such as avoiding tolls, avoiding highways, or taking the shortest route. You can also select multiple, which will allow Google Maps to show you multiple possible routes based on your preferences.

Step 7: View the new route

After making your selection, Google Maps will generate a new route that meets your criteria. The app will provide you with an overview, including the time and distance of the new route. You can also see the route highlighted on the map.

Step 8: Confirm the new route

If you’re satisfied with the new route, tap on “Done” and then select “Start” to begin navigation. If you’re not happy with the route, you can go back to the “Route options” menu and make new selections until you find the best route for your journey.

Google Maps is a powerful tool that helps you navigate and find directions from one place to another. It’s one of the most advanced mapping services available today, offering accurate and up-to-date information, including alternate routes. By following the steps outlined above, you’ll be able to find alternate routes on Google Maps and reduce your travel time and hassle.
