The Hustle is a popular and energetic dance that originated in the late 1970s. This catchy disco-era dance is characterized by its funky groove and smooth moves. If you’ve always wanted to learn how to do the Hustle, these 15 steps will get you on your way to becoming a dancing pro.

1. Listen to disco music: To get a feel for the rhythm and beat of the dance, listen to some iconic disco tunes. These can include songs like “Stayin’ Alive” by Bee Gees or “Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough” by Michael Jackson.

2. Warm up: Before dancing the Hustle, perform some dynamic stretches and warm-up exercises to prepare your body for movement.

3. Assume the proper stance: Begin with your feet hip-width apart, knees slightly bent, and arms positioned at your sides.

4. Learn the basic step pattern: The basic Hustle step pattern consists of three weight shifts before repeating. Practice moving as follows: step forward with your left foot (1), step forward with your right foot (2), then shift your weight back onto your left foot (3).

5. Add a rock step: After completing the basic pattern, begin incorporating a rock step similar to steps used in other dance genres like salsa or cha-cha. Rock back on your right foot (4), then return your weight to your left foot (5).

6. Add arm movements: While performing the basic step pattern and rock step, incorporate syncopated arm movements to accentuate your dancing style.

7. Master the side break: The side break is an essential component of the Hustle. Step out with one foot at an angle (6), followed by a tap or touch of the other foot against it (7).

8. Incorporate turns and spins: Add turns and spins as you grow more comfortable with the basic steps. Ensure both partners communicate and use appropriate signals.

9. Rotate partners: The Hustle is often danced in a social setting, so switch partners as you dance around the floor.

10. Learn advanced moves: As your skills improve, learn more intricate moves such as the cross-body lead, outside turn, or New York walk.

11. Practice with a partner: Dancing the Hustle requires two people, so practice with a partner who can provide feedback and help refine your technique.

12. Take dance lessons: Although it’s possible to teach yourself the Hustle, dance lessons with an instructor can provide hands-on guidance and personalized advice.

13. Attend disco-themed events: Look for local disco-themed events to showcase your Hustle dance skills and learn from others.

14. Record yourself dancing: Like any skill, practice makes perfect. Record yourself dancing to track your progress and identify areas of improvement.

15. Keep dancing: The more you dance the Hustle, the smoother your movements will become. Enjoy yourself and continue practicing to master this fun, energetic style of dance!

With patience and persistence, you can learn how to do the Hustle and impress everyone on the dance floor. Follow these steps, add your unique flair, and become a master of the Hustle dance in no time!
